Understanding Your Social Media Demographic: Part Two LinkedIn

Last week we talked about understanding the demographic for Facebook. This week we are going to talk about LinkedIn.

What is LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is a Social Network that focuses on building business relationships and networking with business professionals. Currently there are over 20 million users.

Of adults who use the Internet, 22% use LinkedIn. The typical user is college educated with an annual income of $75,000 or more. Something particularly interesting to note about the users of LinkedIn is that it is the only Social Networking site that the percentage of users from 50-64 years of age is higher that those who are 18-29 years of age.

Many of the users of LinkedIn are educated. Only 12 percent of the users have a high school diploma, 16 percent of the users have some college courses but the vast majority, 38 percent, have a college degree.

The majority of the users have an income of over $75,000/year; 22 percent of the users have an income of $50,000-74,999/year; 13 percent have an income of $30,000-49,999/year; only 12 percent of users have an average income of $30,000 or less per year.

Of all of the Social Media Networks, LinkedIn has the most specific demographic. It caters to the well educated and employed professional. It also has a specific purpose of helping working professionals network with fellow professionals within their industry. It is also heavily used as a tool for finding employment. Professionals can recruit the top talent within their industry and employees.
